My dad is a really great guy. He grew up in the Great Depression. So he knows the value of a dollar. Yet he still managed to spend enough of them to be very generous with his children and grandchildren. He made his money as an insurance broker, which to my mind isn't a very easy way to make your money. But he did very well at it. You have to -- to support 5 children.
My parents were divorced when I was 10, yet he kept his promise of never moving more than one suburb away. We saw him every weekend and took vacations with him and his new wife and later my new little sister. He did a great job as a dad!
He sent us to college. Coached us when needed. Interfered when my mom asked him too and sometimes when she didn't like any good dad. As I got older we got even closer, which is the ideal with fathers, because they seem to understand grownups even better than they do kids!
My dad is 78 now and writing our family genealogy in great depth. He's visiting towns, graveyards, libraries - all around the U.S. to fine tune it. Interestingly he's putting in points of history for us to -- to put the genealogy in context. He is a great writer, great with detail and his stories, even when they're true, are very interesting.
I love my dad. For Father's Day, maybe I'll show him my blog!

Your dad is awesome and had a wonderful effect on your life. My dad passed away in 1985 at the young age of 61. I miss his physical body sometimes, but I can still feel his spirit. He still tells me what to do sometimes, and I still rebel sometimes....though more and more, when I hear his voice in my spirit, I listen to it and obey it. I'm a lot like my dad in my passion for life and the way I sing at the top of my voice....all the songs I love! To your dad and mine, and all the fathers in the universe, thanks for being there for us and loving us. We honor you this month!
Yes Patty to your dad and mine! Thank you for your great comments. I'm so sorry you lost your dad when he was so young. My husband's dad died when he was only 56, and my husband was in his early 20's. I am so fortunate to have had my dad in my adult years. He has shaped my adult life in so many ways. So we toast all the dads in the universe! Happy Fathers Day!
That's wonderful you had such a great dad. My biological dad was not so great. He was one of those dead beat types. But I did have a good step dad. I hope you showed this to your dad on Fathers Day. I think it would make any dad proud to see this.
Everyone, I did show this to my dad. It was after Father's Day. He truly loved it!
